Research & Development

Research that becomes city products.

CLARA was born in collaborative research projects, and it keeps growing through them. A part of our work is always running inside funded R&D, from small pilots with a single municipality to international consortia. This page is for the people who put those projects together.

The programmes we work with

We take part in projects at every scale, national and international:

  • European programmes
  • National and regional programmes
  • Direct city pilots: small, focused projects with a single city or municipality that wants to try a digital twin on its own territory.

Project durations range from a few months for a pilot to three years for a full consortium.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for partners to co-create new local digital twins and to push the technology further:

Cities and public authorities

Municipalities, cities and agencies that want high-resolution urban microclimate monitoring, as a pilot site in a proposal or as the end user of a new digital twin.

Research centers

Universities and research groups working on urban microclimate physics, atmospheric modelling, data assimilation or machine learning for simulation.

Tech SMEs

Providers of IoT hardware, environmental sensors, smart-city platforms and data services that complement what CLARA measures and predicts.

Consortium builders

Coordinators preparing a proposal who need an SME partner for high-resolution urban simulation, environmental data or digital twin generation.

What we bring to a consortium

  • A validated technology: the CLARA engine, physics-based and backed by peer-reviewed research, already live in Brussels.
  • A track record: BuildWind has acquired and delivered competitive R&D projects in European, ESA, national and regional programmes.
  • A clear role: partner or work-package leader for urban microclimate simulation, environmental data platforms and digital twin generation, with the pragmatism of a small engineering company.
